I’m Tayina and here we are trying to get to know each other in these strange and trying times.
What do you need to know about me?
I got into therapy because I didn’t see a lot of people that looked like me, I was struggling, and I thought being with people and healing together sounded absolutely amazing.
Some of that became true and some of that really did not.
It wasn’t all amazing.
I stayed in therapy because there aren't many people who look like me having these conversations.
Maybe your healing journey has been amazing for you, maybe it hasn’t.
So, for as long as I’m in the field of therapy, here is what I want to offer: a rest, a sanctuary, a place of comfort, where you are not alone and we make space for your truth.
As a trainee, how I do this work is still being formed and shifting. Right now, here are some of the ways I like to think about therapy: therapy is a liminal space, a place for us to be in between everyday and the Sacred. Where we make space for the Self that handles day to day and the Self that Dreams.
In therapy, the container is a sanctuary.
Recently, I have been most inspired by Eduardo Duran, Sherri Mitchell, Decolonizing Therapy, The Way of Tenderness, and African Healing Practices.
These authors and books move me because they show me what is possible in a healing space. They show me that even if healing is not amazing, at least it’s possible.
